Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Stephens serves as the chief operating officer for STAR Academy, which means he serves the school by providing strategic leadership and oversight in administrative leadership, organizational trajectory, all operations and school culture.
Dr. Stephens is an alumnus of the historic Fisk University and Vanderbilt University Divinity School in Nashville, Tennessee meriting a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Management/Operations and Masters of Divinity, respectively. Edward completed his Doctorate of Ministry at Baylor University with a competency in ministry and marketplace leadership. As a product of both public and private school systems, Dr. Stephens understands the disparities and inequity that exist amongst students. Dr. Stephens has made a career of working to eliminate this inequity while building communities that foster academic achievement. In his spare time, Dr. Stephens enjoys traveling, deep-sea fishing, and kitesurfing. Dr. Stephens serves on many civic and community boards including the Greater Memphis Chamber, Chairman’s Circle, Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA), Downtown Memphis Commission, & Lily Rose Studios.
Mr. Johnson serves as Chief Academic Officer which means he provides strategic leadership to the School’s academic, pedagogical, teacher development, and assessments/outcomes efforts with the aim of improving academic growth for all students.
Mr. Johnson is originally from Jackson, TN. He relocated to Memphis to attend the University of Memphis, obtaining both his Bachelors of Arts in Education and Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of Memphis. He also completed an Instructional Leadership Endorsement from Bethel University. It is his belief that through a proper education, a student will receive the necessary skills that are necessary to construct a life that it successful and flourishing. Every child deserves a secure, nurturing, and engaging atmosphere in which to grow and mature intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. James aspires to help students meet their fullest potential by providing a comfortable/safe environment that encourages risk-taking and promotes sharing of ideas and theories.
